Setting: The DC universe is one of fifty-two realities like it, and it bears a lot of similarities to our own world in terms of geography, history, current events and pop culture, but that only serves as a baseline -- it is quite a bit different in a lot of ways. For one, the universe is host to a variety of extranormal phenomena like aliens, time travel, magic, superpowers, alternate realities...the list goes on. However, its defining feature is its expansive pantheon of superheroes and supervillains, popping up all over the universe and constantly staging the (usually quite public) conflict between good and evil. Masked heroes and costumed villains are a regular feature of the world, and rarely a surprise to its inhabitants. However, not everyone fits neatly into either category; Catwoman is one such character who inhabits a space somewhere between hero and criminal. Catwoman’s world is decidedly gray, a world of moral ambiguity and necessary evils; there are no clean victories, and there are no principles set in stone.

Gotham is a city unique to the DC universe, and one that Selina usually calls home. Gotham is a large city located somewhere in the northeast of the US and bears a resemblance to other large American cities like New York; it is notorious for its high crime rate, not only with devious supervillains, but good old organized and violent crime as well. Not that the two are mutually exclusive -- in Gotham City, it's not unheard of for supervillains to work with the mob and all the rest. Even the Gotham City P.D. is riddled with corruption and dirty cops, making it difficult to trust anyone completely. But all that evil and corruption doesn't stand unopposed in Gotham. Batman, AKA Bruce Wayne, is Gotham's self-declared cowled protector, and he acts as a vigilante counterforce to the big bads in Gotham. Batman is a very public figure and a focal point not only of Gotham City, but Selina's world in particular. Due to the personal nature of her relationship with Batman, as much as it may fluctuate, she is inexorably linked to the goings-on of Batman and Bruce Wayne, and although they don't often explicitly work together, their paths often cross. Selina's move into the tentative world of vigilante hero has, if anything, brought her even closer to Batman's world; however, as Selina herself acknowledges, they occupy entirely different moral spaces in Gotham, and their worlds are essentially quite separate.

Selina’s origins are in Gotham's East End, a lower-class, poverty-stricken section of the city where crime and corruption run rampant, and is Selina's birthplace. The drug and sex trades have a strong presence in the East End, which is often heavily exploited by those with means -- the East End has had its share of supervillains and crime bosses running the show, most recently the villain Black Mask. The muddled morality of the East End is where Selina fits in perfectly; it gave her her start as a master thief, a self-styled Gotham Robin Hood turned high class criminal, and though her career trajectory as the masked criminal Catwoman took her on a social climb to the upper classes, when everything else in her life bottomed out, it was the East End that she returned to. It is the focal point of Selina’s world, the place she always winds up calling home.

Selina has connections with a lot of people in and out of Gotham, but there are a few people who are relevant to her in particular. Batman is an important part of her life -- it was seeing Batman in action for the first time that inspired her to become Catwoman -- but so is his public counterpart Bruce Wayne, not only in a crime-fighting capacity but on a personal level as well. Wildcat, AKA Ted Grant, the renowned hero and heavyweight boxer, not only trained Selina in boxing but once had a romantic affair with her as well. Selina often works with (or calls on for favors) Slam Bradley, a former cop turned private detective with whom she has also had a short-lived romantic affair. She lives with her best friend Holly, an ex-prostitute and long-time friend whom Selina hired as an assistant to keep her off the streets, and she often calls on Dr. Leslie Thompkins for help in times of need, a doctor to whom she was referred by Bruce, and who counseled her through her transition to the new Catwoman.

Personality: Selina is a clever, self-assured woman who, for the most part, knows how she wants and how to get it. She's sassy and confident, not afraid to throw her weight around, and it shows in the way she comes up with snappy comebacks and snarky remarks as easy as breathing, and the risks she regularly takes. It's her stellar confidence that makes her untouchable -- she's hard to intimidate, and she doesn't let anyone walk all over her. Selina is very insistent upon her own agency; her sense of agency is also the source of her strength.

Selina has excellent social skills; she's not only good with people, she's good at manipulating them when it comes down to it, too. She knows how to be extremely charming and she isn't afraid to flaunt it, and she can talk her way out of a good number of situations. As friendly as she may be sometimes, Selina is fairly hesitant to really let people in, and it takes quite a lot for her to develop that kind of connection with someone. As charming as she may be, Selina is a rather guarded person, always looking out to protect herself. However, Selina is very protective of her loved ones, and if you're on the short list of people she'll go to bat for, she'd probably kill for you. She's a pretty tough woman -- the difficulties of her childhood have given her a thick skin, and emotionally, she is capable of handling quite a bit. For the most part, maintaining a secret identity in and of itself isn't all that stressful for her. However, she is still human and quite flawed, and she is still capable of being emotionally vulnerable, and she definitely has weak points. Her self-confidence is occasionally her downfall and can create a blind spot for her, and she is capable of making mistakes and overestimating her ability to handle things. When she gets hurt, she tends to react with anger in particular, and ever since her last encounter with Scarecrow, she has some issues with second-guessing herself.

She is extremely clever as well as resourceful; it is this creative intelligence that makes her a match for Batman, as she often does the unexpected. She's skilled at manipulating not only people, but circumstances as well; if there's one thing Selina knows how to do, it's stack the deck in her favor with well-crafted schemes and a little stage-setting. She's a good liar, and deception comes fairly easy to her; she's not above flaunting what she has. She delights in the chase and the game, and she's a thrillseeker at heart -- she doesn't mind doing things just for fun with no strings attached. For Selina, it's all about the means, not the end; she's far more interested in the ride than the final destination, and part of the reason she enjoys it so much is because she knows she's good at it. However, as clever and talented as she might be, she is entirely capable of making mistakes. Sometimes her admittedly considerable ego gets in the way of her intelligence, and her plans occasionally lack forethought or fall apart due to a miscalculation, and that's when she tends to trip up. The second something manages to penetrate her confidence, she starts to falter. She can also be selfish and greedy at points; when she is overwhelmed, she has a tendency to lose sight of what's important and backslide into old bad habits.

Selina is as morally ambiguous as they come. Although she does have a code of sorts of her own, it is rather flexible. She has a good heart and good intentions for the most part, deep down, she understands that she lives in a moral gray area and that things are never so simple and clear cut. She understands necessary evils and isn't above using dirty methods to achieve good ends. She considers herself very much a realist, and isn't afraid to se things straight from A to B; she isn't opposed to violence or death if that's what it takes to get the job done. That isn't to say that her judgment is never clouded by emotion, however; when Selina is emotional, she tends to act irrationally and on instinct.

Selina will likely react to the news of her situation with mainly curiosity. Although she'll be a little worried about Holly and everything back home, she'll want to focus the majority of her energy on learning more about the place she's in. She had been looking for a vacation, so she'll try to make the best of her time on Tu Vishan to try and relax and recharge from recent events. Given the recurring themes of lack of control in her life lately, she'll probably try to find some way to be at peace with her lack of control over this situation, too.

Abilities: Selina has a whole host of abilities at her disposal. Growing up in Gotham’s East End has made her exceedingly street smart, and she knows how to navigate the criminal underworld. She's a master thief, as well, skilled in the whole nine yards from pickpocketing to elaborate jewel heists, and is capable of being quite stealthy. She's extremely resourceful; not only does she know how to find what she needs, but she knows how to get it, through whatever means necessary. She's also quite skilled at disguising herself and creating a variety of aliases to cover her tracks and get her the access she needs. She is also extremely athletic: she is capable of skilled acrobatics, as well as high-level hand-to-hand combat, having trained in karate and street-fighting both. She doesn't technically have any superhuman abilities, but she's basically at peak fitness and is considerably formidable in hand-to-hand combat.

Inventory: Selina will only arrive in plainclothes with what she’s got on her -- her wallet, keys, a set of lockpicks, and a pair of sunglasses.

Suite: Wood Sector, 2 floors. Selina feels rather at home in lower class areas, and the little nooks and crannies of the cozy Wood Suites are ideal for somebody like her. She doesn’t need a lot of space, but it sure doesn’t hurt to live comfortably.

In-Character Samples:
Third Person: Selina doesn't like feeling thrown off-balance. Her confidence stems from the fact that she can usually find her footing, someway or another, however precarious. But the last few months have been a series of trip-ups and missteps, and at best she’s felt like she’s been windmilling her arms desperately. The community center burned to the ground, her sister retreated deep into her own mind in an institution, that whole mess with Slam, the way she’d neglected Holly...she’s only just started to feel like she’s been getting back on her feet, and now this? She’d just been getting ready for a road trip with Holly, a few weeks away from Gotham. Something they’ve both desperately needed for a while now.

Well, she’s out of Gotham, that’s for sure.

It’s hard not to think about everything that’s happened up until now. Selina’s been waiting to catch a break, and this...doesn’t seem like much of a break. Sure, the digs they have her set up in are alright -- the little treehouse palace they seem to have set aside for her is certainly cozy in a way that her Gotham apartment never has been. There’s a certain security to it that she rather likes. But it’s not what she was planning on. Then again...she hasn’t planned on a lot that’s happened.

Maybe she needs to let go a little, here. There’s a certain charm to the markets, and to the whole atmosphere of the place, and she has to admit that it has her curious. It’s clear there are factors at work here beyond her or anyone else’s control -- she’s tired of that, she’s frustrated with it, but as long as she’s here, she might as well find some way to entertain herself. Find a way to do for herself what that road trip with Holly was supposed to. This place isn’t anything like Gotham, so who knows -- maybe there’s some fun to be had here after all.

Network: [ The video feed shows a woman with short, dark hair, looking somewhat expectantly back at the viewer. It's clear from her expression that she's not so sure about all of this just yet. ]

Okay, so I was looking for a vacation from Gotham, but this isn't exactly what I had in mind. I was thinking something more along the lines of road trip with my best friend, not Trapped on Turtle Island. I like the beach as much as the next girl, but this place isn't what I'd call a resort.

[ No offense, really. Anyone who enjoys it here, kudos to you. Selina's reserving judgment until she finds out more about this place, and really, she'd so rather that Holly were here with her. She clears her throat a little, flashing a grin. ]

Anyway, the accommodations could definitely be worse. So who here wants to point me in the direction of what you guys do for fun around here? It's not exactly my dream vacation, but I might as well try to relax a little.
